New Members Guide

Information to help you to settle into the club

Fees: On first joining the club, the membership fee is reduced by 50%. Thereafter, the full annual fee is payable in April of each year. Payable by cheque or bank transfer, please ask Trevor Durrant or Jean Grant for bank details.

Practice: (Roll-ups) During the bowling season the green is available during the afternoons and evenings as daily maintenance takes place every morning. League and Friendly games take priority on the green, but you are free to come and practice as much as you wish. Mats and jacks are kept in the outside lock-up chest (down by the sheds) – ask any player to show you how to obtain access.

Attire: Flat shoes should be worn on the green at all times and either grey or white attire is expected for a club game. Club shirts can be purchased from Trevor Durrant, and all other club regalia from the John Morbey.

Games: A schedule of all games are in the current handbook, together with phone numbers for playing members. Player lists for upcoming games are on the outside notice board opposite the top car park, giving details of the game date, location, time, opposition and whether whites or grey attire. If away, transport will be arranged and club leaving time advised. Please enter your name on the form if you wish to play and check prior to date for list of accepted players.

Rink fee of £2 per game is payable to your team skip on the day. Nominal transport fees are indicated and should be paid to your driver. After a home game tea and biscuits are provided, or if the bar is open it is customary to buy your opposite number a drink. An optional raffle is usually held after some matches.

Equipment: New members can take advantage of our stock of woods in order to get used to the size and weight before purchasing a set. There is a rail of used clothing for purchase within the ladies changing room. Most clubs display similar items at their premises.

Events: Look on the foyer notice board for details of competitions or upcoming events. Social events include all members and guests, (See also this website, under Upcoming Events) and payment to take part is cash only.

Short-mat games and practices take place during the winter months when the hall is not booked for an event. Please ensure that the mats are stored if an event is following the session.

Club Maintenance and upkeep: As with all clubs, volunteers for the many jobs around the club are required and you are respectfully requested to put your name on a rota to help in the club if you can. Please speak to any Committee member for more information.

Weekly tasks include cleaning clubhouse, bar service; gardening, green maintenance. Working parties are raised for special maintenance around the clubhouse and grounds.
